Barbara Casasola: guest designer at Pitti

Estimated read time 2 min read

Born in Brazil but of Italian origin, Barbara Casasola debuted at the London Fashion Week in September 2013, after being a finalist at the Who’s on Next Vogue Italy in June 2012. She honed her skills as the first assistant designer for the women’s collection at Roberto Cavalli before moving to Paris to work with Gabrielle Greiss for Lanvin and See by Chloé. Young, charming (with big, deep eyes), and with plenty of talent. Her “occasion-wear” has conquered style icons all over the world: a mix of Brazilian modernist tradition and Italian elegance in the details, that’s the spirit of Barbara Casasola.

She will be a “Guest Womenswear Designer” at Pitti 2014, where she will present a capsule collection…

What is the inspiration behind the capsule you will present at Pitti?

The inspiration for the pre-fall capsule collection is “menswear for women.” It’s really exciting for me to be able to focus on the tailoring of men’s clothing and introduce these new elements to the Casasola line. I will also be presenting my first clutch at this edition of Pitti!

For what kind of woman do you design your clothes?

I design for a woman who can be naturally sensual, with the right attitude.

If you had to choose one moment in your career so far that you will never forget, what would it be?

Definitely the moment when I saw Gwyneth Paltrow wearing one of my jumpsuits.

Do you have a muse?

Definitely my grandmother. She was a very simple woman, but she had something that took people’s breath away. It was in her attitude, something that all great women have. I can’t really explain it.

If you could choose a celebrity to dress whom you haven’t met yet, who would it be?

Diane Kruger!!

What are your upcoming projects?

I started with occasion-wear because I felt that what the market offered was often aimed at a generation that has already passed. Gradually, I have added small pieces to the line and Pitti will be a very important step. I want to enjoy the moment, I haven’t finished exploring, in fact, I have just begun!
